PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk(PT SMART Tbk) also known as SMART is a subsidiary of Golden Agri Resources (GAR), operating under the Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food brand in Indonesia. SMART was founded in 1962 and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 1992. The sheer scale and vertically integrated nature of our operations enable our team to ensure efficiency, quality and sustainability across our supply chain. Our operations are innovation-driven and sustainability led, to ensure that we remain a global leader in sustainable palm oil production and your partner of choice. We are at forefront of agronomy and technology, thanks to our focus and investment in R&D. Our downstream refining and specialty product facilities manufacture high-quality products for the global agronomy, food, oleochemical, and bioenergy markets. With great palm oil production comes great corporate social responsibility. 100 percent of our plantations have social and community development programmes in place.

What we do PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk (PT SMART Tbk’s ) palm oil plantations cover approximately 137,000 hectares (including smallholder farmers). Our primary activities range from cultivating and harvesting oil palm trees, extracting fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) into crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK), to processing it into industrial and consumer products such as cooking oil, margarine, shortening, biodiesel, and oleochemicals, as well as merchandising the palm products throughout the world. We operate 16 mills, 4 kernel crushing plants, 4 refineries, 2 biodiesel plants, and 1 oleochemical plant across Indonesia. Besides bulk and industrial oil, our refined products are also marketed under several well-loved consumer brands such as Filma and Kunci Mas. Today, these brands have been recognised for their high quality and command significant market share in their respective segments in Indonesia.

SMART’s History

1962	Incorporated under the name of PT Maskapai Perkebunan Sumcama Padang Halaban.
1992	Listed its shares on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.
2002	Started to concentrate on the core business by divesting tea and banana plantations.
2005	Completed conversion of US$ 205 million shareholder’s loan into equity. 1-to-5 stock split. Became an active member of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
2008	Built new refinery in South Kalimantan.
2011	Received first RSPO certification.
2012	Received first International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) certification. Issued corporate bonds totalled Rp 1 trillion.
2014	Received first Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification.
2015	Expanded oleochemical facilities in Belawan by 152,000 tonnes per annum.
2016	Operated a biodiesel plant in South Kalimantan with installed capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day. Completed 100% mapping of supply chain to mills or Traceability to the Mill.
2017	Launched high-yielding new planting materials – Eka 1 and Eka 2. Achieved 100% Traceability to the Plantation for all owned mills.
2019	Successfully produced low 3-MCPD⁴ oil.
2020	Issued corporate bonds totaled Rp 2.18 trillion.
2022	Net profit achieved highest record of Rp 5.5 trillion. Issued corporate bonds totaled Rp 2.5 trillion. Completed the expansion of biodiesel plant of 1,500 tonnes per day.
2024	Set a new record in net sales reaching almost Rp 79 trillion. Received 2024 Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) Award in the Smart Factory category from the Ministry of Industry. Recognised at the Endress+Hauser Indonesia Sustainability Recognition Forum for our environmental initiative at the Belawan Refinery by utilising biomass as energy source. Received the Subroto Award 2024 in the category of Bioenergy from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for the third time, recognising our role in advancing the energy and mineral resources sector.

Golden Agri-Resources (GAR), SMART’s holding company and operating under the Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food brand in Indonesia, is one of the largest palm oil plantation companies in the world.

Our plantations are located in Indonesia and we manage over half a million hectares of palm oil plantations (including smallholder farmers). We are a leading seed-to-shelf agribusiness – from growing oil palms with local farmers to producing food for the present and future.

Sustainability is an essential part of our business and we are guided by our GAR Social and Environmental Policy (GSEP). The GSEP is the roadmap we share with our employees, smallholders, suppliers, and customers as we work together to realise GAR’s vision of a sustainable palm oil industry.

Founded in 1996, GAR was listed on the Singapore Exchange in 1999.

Sinar Mas Oleochemical

Established in 1993, Sinar Mas Oleochemical (PT Soci Mas) provides a one-stop solution for the supply of oleochemicals in the form of fatty acids, glycerine, and soap noodles.

Our global sales office is based in Singapore, and we are represented in Asia, Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent.

With products made from responsibly sourced natural oils and fats from palm oil and palm kernel oil, Sinar Mas Oleochemical and our supply chains are RSPO and GMP-certified for cosmetic ingredients and GMP+B2 certified for feed safety. All products are also Halal, Kosher, and ISO (9001:2008 & 14001:2004) certified.

Our biodiesel plants were first established in 2016, as part of our support of the mandatory biodiesel policy in Indonesia. We have a biodiesel plant near Jakarta and another one in South Kalimantan with a total capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day.
